My name is Jesus Oliva Barron, I am a medical doctor from Nochistlan Zacatecas,
currently coordinating Health Workforce programs in California through COPE
Health Solutions. Over the past 6 years we have helped over 400 nurses obtain
their license through a support program that provides guidance, counseling, and
courses to help these nurses reach their goal to pass the licensing exam and be
able to practice as a nurse in California.
We would like to extend an opportunity to any Nurse that obtained their license
in Mexico or other parts of the world and is currently residing in California
but not practicing their original profession. We are in the initial phase to
identify more nurses that fall in this category to justify the need for this
program and identify funding sources through our hospital partners and other
foundations to be able to continue to provide the necessary resources to help
these nurses practice their original profession and help bridge the language and
culture gap. It is very sad to see that many of these nurses are currently not
working in health and if they are they are working in health it is at a lower
capacity of their education and experience.
Some of the benefits are:
Provide quality patient care in their language
Provide culturally competent care
Bridge the language and culture gap
Contribute to reduce the nursing shortage in California (ranked lowest
throughout the United States per patient ratio)
Help re-enter the professionals in their original profession
An increase of more than 400 % for these professionals in less than one year
The graduates of programs will become role models for other Hispanic communities
and for their children
Increase the diversity in the nursing profession
No cost to the participant. The cost of program services is funded by hospital
partners or foundations.

Mi nombre es Jesus Oliva Barrón, soy medico originario de Nochistlan Zacatecas,
actualmente estoy coordinando programas de formaciones de recursos humanos en el
área de la salud en California a través de COPE Health Solutions. Durante los
últimos 6 años hemos ayudado
a mas de 400 enfermeras obtener su licencia de enfermería a través de programas
de apoyo que ofrecen accesoria, y cursos que les permitan a estas enfermeras
lograr su objetivo de pasar el examen profesional que les permite ejercer como
enfermeras/os en California.
Queremos hacer extensiva la oportunidad a cualquier Enferma/o que obtuvo su
cedula profesional en México u otras partes del mundo y que actualmente esta
radicando en California sin que este ejerciendo su profesión original. Estamos
en la fase inicial de identificar mas enfermeras que caigan dentro de esta
categoría, con el fin de justificar la necesidad de dicho programa e identificar
recursos económicos a través de hospitales socios y otras fundaciones que
permitirán seguir proporcionando los recursos necesarios para ayudar a estas
enfermeras/os para que puedan ejercer su profesión de origen y poder crear un
puente entre el idioma y la cultura. Es muy triste ver que muchas de estas
enfermeras/os no están actualmente trabajando en el área de la salud, y si lo
están haciendo lo están haciendo en una capacidad muy inferior a su capacidad
educativa o de experiencia laboral.
Algunos beneficios son:
Proporcionar servicios de calidad en el idioma del paciente
Proporcionar cuidados culturalmente competentes
Crear un puente culturalmente y lingüísticamente apropiado con el paciente
Contribuir a reducir la escasez de enfermería en California (que se encuentra en
los últimos lugares en cuanto a proporción enfermera/paciente)
Ayudar a la reincorporación de profesionales en su profesión de origen
Lograr un incremento salarial de mas de 400 % para estos profesionales en un
periodo menor a doce meses.
Los egresados del programa se convertirán en roles a seguir para la comunidad
hispana y para sus hijos
Incrementar la diversidad en la profesión de enfermería
Sin costo alguno para los participantes. El costo de los servicios del programa
serán patrocinados por hospitales y/o fundaciones.
